The PJ and PK Ranger’s 3.0L Duratorq is a genuine little power earner, and on a stock vehicle our custom dyno tuning has taken one from 136.2HP/344Nm at the wheels up to 172.4HP/467Nm, all within the limits of the factory turbo and injectors.
These engines are getting old now, though, so good maintenance is the trade-off for chasing those gains; healthy glow plugs, clean fuel and up-to-date servicing matter more on a PJ/PK than on the newer platforms.
Every calibration is built around your specific vehicle’s condition and how it’s driven, not a generic file pulled off the shelf.
A PJ/PK makes a solid step forward from an intercooler kit alone, dropping intake temps and giving the tune more room to work with.
The bigger gains come from fitting an RHV5 turbocharger along with fresh injectors; between the extra airflow and injectors back to spec, the calibration has a lot more to work with and the vehicle picks up noticeably stronger, more consistent power.
As with all our tuning, the file is built specifically around your turbo, injectors and supporting mods rather than a stock-style map stretched to cover it.
Transmission tuning availability on the older 5-speed auto PJ/PK platform is limited compared to the later 6 and 10-speed Rangers; these vehicles run the 5R55S/5R55W 5-speed auto rather than the 6R80 or 10R80 used from PX onward, and support for calibrating it isn’t as developed.
If your PJ or PK is on an automatic and you’re chasing firmer, more predictable shifts under load or tow, get in touch via our Facebook page to confirm what’s currently supported for your exact model and build before booking.
